Eleanor Morris

Eleanor recently graduated from Lancaster University with a degree in Fine Art.  As a young artist, she is now keen to establish herself and further her practice.  She lives in Eggleston, a village four miles from the gallery.

Having previously worked with oil paint at university, Eleanor has found herself increasingly drawn to coloured pencil drawing since returning home to the countryside. She specialises in detailed animal portraits, with a particular focus on British countryside wildlife and commissioned pet portraits. Her work is rooted in a deep appreciation for the natural world and the unique character each animal holds. Using a layered approach, she builds up colour and depth slowly, allowing the subtle variations within fur, feathers, and shadow to emerge. She’s especially drawn to the complexity of colours found in the darker areas - shadows are rarely just black - and loves exploring what else is hidden there.

She says, “My practice is what I would label a ‘soft-realism’; a style that captures the essence of realism, without focussing on every minute detail. This combination produces an end result that is vibrant, sophisticated and engaging”.
