Eleanor Morris
Having previously worked with oil paint during my time at university, I’ve found myself increasingly drawn to coloured pencil drawings since returning home to the countryside. I specialise in detailed animal portraits, with a particular focus on British countryside wildlife and commissioned pet portraits. My work is rooted in a deep appreciation for the natural world and the unique character each animal holds. Using a layered approach, I build up colour and depth slowly, allowing the subtle variations within fur, feathers, and shadow to emerge. I’m especially drawn to the complexity of colours found in the darker areas—shadows are rarely just black, and I love exploring what else is hidden there.
“My practice is what I would label a ‘soft-realism’; a style that captures the essence of realism, without focussing on every minute detail. This combination bounces off of one another to produce an end result that is vibrant, sophisticated and engaging”.
