Karenann Matthews-John
Karenann is a landscape artist, drawing inspiration from the farms, woodlands and fells of the North Pennines. As a painter, her work is very much focused on colour with emphasis on the kaleidoscopic patterns created through light.
She studied Fine Art at the Falmouth School of Art and Design and afterwards established a successful career teaching Art and Design, both in County Durham and in South East Asia. Throughout her time as a teacher, she exhibited work regularly, in both open art exhibitions and in solo shows in Shanghai and Beijing.
Returning recently to Weardale, she has spent the past twelve months cataloguing in paintings the changing landscape across the seasons. A prolific artist, Karenann paints daily recording the subtle variations of light and colour month to month. Not always concerned with the dramatic, she finds interest in the meandering tracks, lanes and bridlepaths that criss-cross the North Pennines.
