Susanna discovered her affinity with plein air painting after graduating from Sunderland University with a degree and MA in Fine Art. Her passion for painting outdoors developed through a determination to capture the play of colour and light in real time; this often presents a challenge as the light and weather can change rapidly, especially when painting landscapes in the North Pennines where she lives. Susanna retreats to the studio only when she has to use both hands to stop her painting and umbrella from flying away in the wind! She predominantly uses acrylics, but enjoys exploring mixed media.

Susanna is a qualified teacher (PGCE) and teaches adults to paint and draw in various community centres and through project work.
